Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre hosted the AdvantAge Ontario Region 5 Meeting on September 26 to discuss enhancements in long-term care practices, with a focus on government inspection processes. Alain Plante, Senior Manager of the Ministry of Long-Term Care, provided an overview of current inspection processes and solicited feedback from members on how annual inspections and Critical Incidents Inspections could be better managed. The participants explored how these inspections can be better used as valuable learning opportunities, stimulate enhancements and innovations, affirm best practices, along with identifying areas for improvement with guidance for positive change.
”This meeting gave us a chance to share insights and strategies with our peers. Inspections are valuable learning opportunities. They have great potential to contribute to the continuous improvement of our care by not only identifying areas for improvement but also providing guidance for positive change. Additionally, by offering feedback on our best practices and strong areas, they also help reassure us that we are on the right path and reinforce our commitment to innovations and excellence. Our goal is always to maintain the highest standard of care, which requires us to continuously improve our processes and resources as resident needs evolve,” says Irena Dounets, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre and a member of the AdvantAge Ontario Region 5 Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee of AdvantAge Ontario’s Region 5 provides leadership and governance for long-term care providers in the region. It advocates for better policies, ensures regional needs are reflected in provincial initiatives, and facilitates communication among member organizations. The Committee also supports the development of programs and practices to enhance the quality of care in long-term care homes.

To meet the evolving needs of our residents, it’s important to stay current with emerging best practices, and see how these developments can benefit our Home. At the same time, serving on this Committee provides me with an opportunity to share our own experiences and best practices with others. This knowledge exchange keeps us at the leading edge of long-term care and strengthens our ability to contribute to positive changes through advocacy and have a broader impact on the sector, ” shared Irena Dounets.
